EscapeE allows you to mark out and define data fields on the pages and then extract the text at these positions into a file of CSV [comma separated values] with field names in the first record or into an XML [extensible markup language] file. These files can be imported into a database or fed to the RedTitan Dynamic Document Formatter. You can also export the fields as plain text.

Use generic XSL to transform captured fields to HTML or PDF for online publication

• Split the output data file whenever a specified field (or tag) is encountered or when a field changes.

Data recovery in XML format. Using EscapeE data can be stripped out from PCL files into XML format. EscapeE shows the PCL document on screen and users simply draw round an area of the page to define the fields and then select 'XML' as the export format. XML extraction can be done at the same time as other conversions, such as PCL to PDF or TIFF. As with all transforms, the process can be set up to run automatically.

When exporting PCL to XML, users can automatically generate all the files need for electronic document publishing: show me

• an XSL stylesheet defining the fields;
• a CSS (cascading stylesheet) defining the positions of the fields on the page;
• and an HTML file which ties these files together with the XML file.

All of EscapeE's functions can be automated for batch conversion of documents.

Users can set EscapeE up to:

• watch for files appearing in a particular directory
• watch for files with particular file extensions
• rename files
• move files after conversion to other directories, etc.

• Create a Windows shortcut with all the correct 'command line' options already set up.
• Use TCP/IP input from a specified port and send PDF output via LPR.

Double byte fonts

Languages such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean create special problems for document creation and printing because the alphabet is too large to fit into the standard 256 PC character set. It means that fonts must use two bytes per character instead of the usual single byte.

RedTitan has long-standing expertise with double-byte font technology for high -volume laser printing and this has now been applied to EscapeE. The program displays PCL pages with double-byte fonts if these are present in the document as download bitmap fonts. PCL documents containing double-byte fonts can be transformed into the full range of formats available with EscapeE, such as PDF, TIFF, PNG, IMG, AFP, XML, CSV.
