Once a suitable rocr database has been created, it may be used to translate the glyphs within selected fields' areas into text. These text values may be exported directly into a TXT, CSV or XML data-file, or processed like any other textual data-field by EscapeE or an RS2 file using evaluate.

1.Open the file containing the imaged "text" for recovery in EscapeE.
2.Sweep out a line of imaged text and select New field... from the pop-up menu.
2.1.The 'Field' dialog opens to show the 'Definitions' page. Enter a name for the Field.
2.2.Click the Action tab and select rocr from the drop-down 'Call plugin' list.
2.2.1.Click the Configure button to open the 'ROCR configure field' dialog. Enter/select the appropriate database from the Refound plugin database combo-box.
2.2.2.Deselect 'Train' check-box then click OK.
2.3.Click OK.
Repeat the set-up steps above for each line of imaged text for processing.
3.Click Export... from the 'File' menu. You may choose to:
3.1.export just the data file:
select Comma separated fields, XML data-fields or Plain text format.
Alternatively,
3.2.export the file and the data-file:
select a format for the file and set up a Log file for the data.
4.Click OK.

Here a dummy field is created to hold the RS/2 script for task. (As with Composite fields, this field is not defined by a swept 'area'.) On closing the wizard, code is added to the RS/2 script such that the selected fields' values would be set to the characters optically recognized in the selected fields' images. Experts may edit the RS/2 code and/or set up further fields for evaluation before export.

1.In EscapeE, Open the document containing the imaged text for rocr text recovery.
2.Sweep-out areas of imaged text (one line at a time) to be optically recognized and select New field... from the pop-up menu.
Tip: select Show>All from the 'Fields' menu so that you can see all the field-area boundaries.
3.Click anywhere on the page which is outside the field areas and select New field... from the pop-up menu.
4.Enter a name for the Field on the 'Definitions' page of the Field dialog, e.g. RS2.
5.Click the Action tab and select EVALUATE from the drop-down 'Call plugin' list. Click the Configure button to open the 'EVALUATE PLUGIN' dialog.
5.1.Select Program file:
Browse to an existing RS/2 script file or
create a new script file by entering a filename and path.
5.2.Click the Edit button to open the 'Evaluate plugin RS/2 wizard'.
5.2.1.Choose OCR and set field value from the drop-down 'Task' list then click the Add button to open the 'Select OCR Fields' dialog.
5.2.1.1.Click to select/deselect the fields for text recovery by rocr:
ticks indicate the selected fields.
5.2.1.2.Click OK.
5.2.2.Click OK to close the wizard.
5.3. Click Save to assign the script to the document and close the dialog.
The selected fields' values are set to the optically recognized characters in EscapeE.
6.Select Export from the EscapeE 'File' menu. You may choose to:
oexport just the data file:
select Comma separated fields, XML data-fields or Plain text format.
Or,
oexport the file and the data-file:
select a format for the file and set up a Log file for the data.
7.Click OK.
