PDF417 barcodes are typically used for the purpose of identification – from parcels to people!

It uses rows of black and white bars stacked up to form a rectangular 2-dimensional block of code. There are 17 elements, each containing 4 bars/spaces sandwiched between distinctive full-height vertical 'start' and 'end' bars.

Largest error checking code improves tolerance of reading errors, but increases the area covered by the barcode.
Narrow strip generates a wider barcode than default, but with a smaller height.
